Welcome to the world, Max! Bathurst Birth Photography

Births are my FAVOURITE thing to photograph.
They are high pressure a lot of the time because you just don’t know when babies will decide to head into the world. As a photographer, that makes things a little hard (okay, a lot hard) because you often have to put your life on hold at the drop of a hat to be there!

BUT.
They are OH. SO. WORTH. IT.

This beautiful birth story takes place in Bathurst, at the Maternity wing of the hospital there.
I’ve met some beautiful midwives over the past several years, but I have to admit, I really liked the two midwives on this particular day - kind, and confident - two amazing qualities for midwives to have. I believe (and no one quote me on this haha) that they are part of the Midwives Group Practice side of things out that way. Either way - awesome midwives.

It was mid morning, on a gorgeous Sunday in November, when I arrived at the hospital to meet up with these beautiful parents. I photographed the birth of their first son last year, and it was so wonderful to be invited back to photograph this one for them too!
B + M were so relaxed, anxious a little bit to go through birth again, (who wouldn’t be!!) but we knew today that they would have another baby - that’s always exciting!!

This pair has got to be one of the most loving couples ever. B is such a supportive bloke, couldn’t ask for a husband to do more for his wife!
To K, M’s sister, I think it’s brilliant that you were there too - you were so calm and supportive!
And to M - you are one of the loveliest birthing women I’ve had the pleasure to meet. You’re a top Mama, and for this birth you were just AMAZING, Henry and Max are so lucky to have you.

These photos depict birth, which can be confronting for some people. It’s real, and messy, and sometimes scary. And that’s okay, because it’s also incredibly beautiful and precious.

B + M have graciously allowed me to share some of their images with you all.
